ChatGPT now connects to iCloud: Apple mail and calendar in one conversation

The new iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar plugins let ChatGPT search your inbox, prepare drafts and find free slots. Handy for anyone living in the Apple ecosystem.

What happened: On 27 October 2026, OpenAI added two new plugins to ChatGPT: iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar. According to available reports they work on all ChatGPT plans on the web, in the desktop app and on iOS; the rollout is gradual, so you may not see them right away. Mail can search and read messages, work with drafts, send emails and look up contacts. Calendar can read upcoming events, create new ones, edit existing ones and find a free window for a meeting.

What it means for you: Until now, ChatGPT was mostly connected to Gmail and Google Calendar. If you run your personal or family life through an Apple account, you get the same thing:

  • Quick lookup — "find the email from the insurer from this spring that mentions the deductible and summarize it in two sentences"
  • Reply prep — "go through unread messages from the supplier and prepare draft replies, send nothing"
  • Weekly planning — "find two hours without meetings on Thursday or Friday for deep work and suggest them"
  • Clash check — "check whether any of my appointments overlap next week"

Calendar also works with events that sync into iCloud from other apps, so you are not limited to what you entered directly in Apple Calendar.

How to get started:

  1. On Apple's site, create an app-specific password. It is separate from your Apple Account password and you can revoke it at any time.
  2. In ChatGPT open Settings → Plugins and choose iCloud Mail and/or iCloud Calendar.
  3. Each plugin connects separately, so you enter the password for both. Mail uses your iCloud address, Calendar the primary email of your Apple Account.
  4. Start with read-only requests (search, summaries) and only then move on to ones that write.

What to watch out for:

  • AI proposes, you approve. Mail can send emails and Calendar can change events. Say explicitly "prepare a draft" or "suggest a time", and confirm any sending or change yourself. A wrongly sent message cannot be recalled.
  • Supported addresses. Mail works only with addresses ending in @icloud.com, @me.com and @mac.com. Gmail or Outlook accounts added to Apple's Mail app are not included.
  • No contacts or reminders. Separate plugins for Contacts and Reminders are not part of this launch.
  • The password can be invalidated. After you change your main Apple Account password, app-specific passwords are usually revoked, so you will need to reconnect in ChatGPT.
  • Sensitive content. Mail is full of personal and company data. Consider what you let into a conversation, and in a work setting check that your policies allow it. In company workspaces, availability may also depend on administrator settings.
  • Not identical everywhere. Not every ChatGPT feature or agent uses plugins the same way; behavior differs for some (for example Work and Codex).

For most people this is a pleasant simplification, not a revolution. The biggest gain is in repeated small tasks: finding old messages and finding free slots.
