ChatGPT answers interactively: Intelligent UI adds calculators, charts and forms

GPT-6 in the Chat tab brings Intelligent UI. ChatGPT decides on its own whether to answer in text or with an interactive element, such as a calculator, a chart or a checklist.

What happened: On 7 October 2026 OpenAI began rolling out Intelligent UI. ChatGPT no longer has to answer in text only: depending on your question it picks a suitable form and adds graphics, tappable buttons, forms, interactive charts, diagrams or maps. The feature runs with GPT-6 in the Chat tab (the models for Work and Codex are unchanged). Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise got it on 7 October, Free and Go users a day later. According to press reports the model differs: paid plans use GPT-6 Sol, Free and Go use GPT-6 Luna.

What it means for you: An answer becomes a small tool you work with instead of just reading. From the announcement and demos:

  • Quick calculators — "split the bill between five people with different shares" or "how much do I save a year if I set aside an amount each month". You get a calculator with controls.
  • Planning — a checklist for preparing a meeting, or a map of a multi-day trip, where you respond by tapping follow-up questions.
  • Understanding a topic — a diagram or chart you can adjust and immediately see the effect. Useful when preparing for a discussion outside your field.

For your work that means fewer trips to a spreadsheet for a simple calculation and faster orientation in a new area.

How to get started:

  1. Open ChatGPT, the Chat tab, and check that you have GPT-6.
  2. Give it a task that can be expressed with interface elements: "build a payback calculator for a tool for our team" or "make an interactive onboarding checklist".
  3. If you find the visuals too many, TechCrunch reports you can dial them back in ChatGPT's personality settings. Check the exact location in the app.

Watch out for:

  • A nice chart or calculator is not proof of correctness. AI proposes, the human approves: recompute the numbers and formulas before any money decision.
  • An interactive element is created for one conversation. It is not a replacement for a shared spreadsheet or a company tool.
  • Availability varies by plan and rollout; check the terms with the provider. Sources are not consistent on whether the Pro reasoning mode supports the feature, so check in the app.

According to MacRumors, the model also tries to start answering while it is still thinking, so responses may arrive faster.
