ChatGPT handles two Gmail accounts at once: work and personal in one conversation

What happened: On August 28, 2026, OpenAI dropped the one-account-per-connector limit. You can now connect a second, or even third, account separately to the Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts connectors in ChatGPT — personal and work Gmail, two calendars, private and business contacts can all be connected at once and used in the same conversation. Based on what you ask, ChatGPT picks which account (or both) to work with, and it can connect information across them — comparing free slots in two calendars, say, or tracking down an email regardless of which inbox it landed in. The feature is rolling out globally on paid plans (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise) on the web, desktop app, and mobile; it isn't available on the Free plan or Go. Codex, OpenAI's sibling coding tool, got the same change.

What it means for you: Until now, switching between a work and personal Gmail or calendar in ChatGPT meant logging out and back in, or merging the information by hand outside the app. Now you just say which account ChatGPT should use, and it searches the right one — or both at once:

• Merged day planning — "check both my calendars and find me 45 minutes to run sometime this week"
• Searching across inboxes — "find the email from vendor X, I'm not sure if it landed in my work or personal address"
• A morning briefing from both lives — a summary of meetings and unread messages from both accounts in one answer instead of two logins

How to get started:

1. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps (formerly Connectors) — it's sometimes also reachable directly from the sidebar as an apps icon.
2. Find Gmail, Google Calendar, or Google Contacts — if you already have one account connected, click the gear icon next to its name.
3. Choose the option to add another account and go through the standard Google sign-in and authorization flow.
4. In the conversation, just tell ChatGPT which account — or all connected accounts at once — it should work with.

Watch out for: Check first whether the feature even reaches you — as of this writing, the Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts connectors reportedly aren't running in the EU/EEA, Switzerland, or the UK due to European data-protection rules, so the connect button may simply not appear there; OpenAI is rolling this out country by country, so check the current state directly in the app. Beyond that, availability depends on your plan, organization, and admin settings — a corporate Google Workspace account may not allow linking to a third-party app even when your personal Gmail does. And because these connectors can also write (create an event, send an email), it's worth keeping action approval switched on in ChatGPT before anything goes out — especially now that the tool has access to two inboxes at once and can more easily mix them up. The rule "AI proposes, the human approves" applies here too: before letting ChatGPT send an email or create a meeting, check which account the action is actually going out from.
