Anthropic launches Claude Academy – free courses on actually using AI at work

The new Claude Academy learning platform offers free courses from prompting basics to planning your week with AI. It also teaches the 4D framework for handing off work to an assistant sensibly.

What happened: On August 20, 2026, Anthropic launched Claude Academy – a free learning platform at academy.claude.com, built on how the company trains its own employees. Courses are free, require no credit card, and award a badge on completion. The lineup ranges from Claude 101 for complete beginners, through practical guides on Projects, Research mode, Skills, and connectors, to an AI Fluency course that teaches the 4D framework – Delegation, Description, Discernment, and Diligence – how to hand a task to AI sensibly, instead of just "throw a prompt at it and hope."

What it means for you: Instead of everyone figuring out how AI works by trial and error, you get a structured path tested on thousands of employees at one of the leading AI companies:

  • A fast start without frustration – the Claude 101 course walks through the basics of prompting and artifacts, so your first week with Claude doesn't feel like a gamble.
  • Concrete work scenarios – the academy also has courses built around everyday tasks: planning your week, analyzing a proposal, turning research into a presentation.
  • A 4D framework for delegating work – Delegation (what to hand off to AI), Description (how to phrase the request), Discernment (how to judge the result), and Diligence (when to double-check it) is a useful approach beyond Claude, with any AI assistant.

For teams still figuring out how to roll out AI, this is a faster path than building internal training from scratch – instead of putting together your own "how we use AI here" presentation, you can send colleagues a link to a ready-made, tested course and spend your time discussing cases specific to your own work.

How to get started:

  1. Go to academy.claude.com (or in the Claude app, click your profile and choose "Learn more").
  2. Pick a starting point based on your level: Claude 101 to begin, AI Fluency for the 4D framework, or a course built around a specific task (planning, research, presentations).
  3. Courses are self-paced – work through them at your own speed, and the badge you earn on completion also works as material for training colleagues internally.

Watch out for: The academy is currently aimed mainly at English-speaking users, and some of the more technical courses (API, Claude Code) target developers rather than everyday users – for purely work-related use, stick to the non-developer section and the AI Fluency courses. The badge is a motivational marker, not a formal certification with guaranteed value to an employer, so present it as evidence you took the time to learn the topic, not as a credential.
