Gemini in Workspace now connects to Salesforce, HubSpot and Asana via MCP
The Gemini side panel in Docs, Sheets, Slides and Chat can now pull data directly from seven common business tools — no tab-switching, no file downloads.
What happened: On September 15, 2026, Google rolled out connections between Gemini in Google Workspace and seven external business tools via MCP (Model Context Protocol) — an open standard through which AI can securely read data from other services. The tools are Asana, Atlassian Rovo, HubSpot, Mailchimp, QuickBooks, monday.com and Salesforce. The connection works from the Gemini side panel in Docs, Sheets and Slides, as well as from Google Chat — you just ask the panel about data in a connected tool and Gemini fetches it directly, without switching tabs, downloading exports, or copying anything by hand. The feature is on by default for users with access to Gemini in Workspace; an admin can still enable or disable individual connectors at the domain, organizational unit, or group level.
What it means for you: This solves the typical time sink of needing data from another tool just to paste it into a document or spreadsheet:
- A CRM report without exporting — in Sheets, type "add the current deal stage for these clients from Salesforce" and Gemini pulls the data in itself.
- Asana status into a slide deck — when prepping an update for leadership, have Gemini summarize open Asana tasks straight into the slides.
- Marketing numbers from Mailchimp — in a Doc, have the latest campaign stats filled in without switching to another app.
- A quick answer in Chat — ask directly in a conversation what the status of an Atlassian Rovo ticket is, without opening Jira.
The benefit scales with how many tools you juggle daily between Workspace and your CRM or project tool — it removes exactly that tab-switching and manual number-copying.
How to get started:
- Check with your Workspace admin that connectors for the tool you need (Salesforce, HubSpot, Asana...) are enabled — they're found in the Admin console under Apps → Google Workspace → Gemini for Workspace → Third-party connectors.
- Open the Gemini side panel in Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Chat.
- Mention the tool and the data you need directly in your prompt, for example "summarize the open deals from Salesforce for client XY."
- Check the output before using it further — it's data fetched by AI, not a verified report.
Watch out for: The feature requires a paid Google Workspace plan with access to Gemini — not every license includes the connectors, see details in the Google help center. Because this reads data from sensitive business systems (CRM, billing), access to connectors should be approved by an admin with an eye on who should be able to see what data in the first place. Don't paste personal data, client data, or internal documents into prompts without company approval, and anonymize anything sensitive. And the usual rule applies: AI proposes a summary or draft text, a human verifies the output before sending it to a client or to leadership.
