Notion adds a shared skills library for your whole team

Notion 3.7 lets you save how your team handles a specific task as a reusable 'skill' that anyone in the workspace can use — and you can even download it into other AI tools.

What happened: On September 15, 2026, Notion shipped version 3.7 with a new skills library. A skill is a saved procedure — instructions that tell AI how to carry out a specific recurring task, like "build the monthly sales summary using our template" or "review this contract against our standards." Previously, such instructions could only be set for a single user; now a skill is saved as a page in a shared library available to the whole workspace. When anyone on the team later asks Notion Agent to do something similar, the agent finds the matching skill on its own and follows it. The feature is available on the Business and Enterprise plans and counts against the same fair-use allowance as other Notion AI usage.

What it means for you: This solves a problem every team knows — the know-how for doing something "the right way" with AI usually stays in one person's head or gets copy-pasted between chat prompts:

  • Standardized output — describe once how a weekly report or a document review should look, and from then on anyone on the team can produce it the same way, not just the person who wrote the original process.
  • Faster onboarding — a new hire doesn't need to ask "how do we do this here"; they just describe the task and the agent finds and applies the saved skill.
  • Portability outside Notion — a skill can be downloaded as a SKILL.md file and used in other AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Gemini, Grok), so you don't need to write the same instructions twice.

In practice: instead of a marketing colleague explaining to the AI every week how the campaign summary should look, they create the skill once, save it to the library, and next time just type / in chat and pick it from the list.

How to get started:

  1. Describe the task you want to standardize to Notion Agent (e.g. "review this proposal against our company guidelines").
  2. Save the resulting process as a skill — Notion offers to save it once the task is done.
  3. The skill appears in the shared library; others find it by typing / in a chat with the agent.
  4. Edit the skill whenever you need — it's a regular Notion page you own and can update at any time.

Watch out for: The feature is only available on the paid Business and Enterprise plans — see the plan comparison on Notion's website. Because a skill can contain internal processes or sensitive company policy, check before sharing it with the whole workspace that it doesn't include anything that shouldn't be visible to everyone with access. If a skill works with specific documents (like contracts), don't feed it personal data, client data, or internal material without company approval — anonymize anything sensitive first. And the usual rule applies here too: AI proposes output based on the skill, a human checks it before sending or publishing.
